A dog that vanished 12 years ago is finally back with her family after a bittersweet reunion.

Missie, a border terrier, was just over a year old when she was thought to have been snatched from a farm by thieves. Her owner, Liz Eldridge, 51, from Harpenden in Hertfordshire, spent eight years looking for Missie before concluding that the search was futile.

“It’s amazing. You’re not expecting it,” she told The Times. “Every time a dog that was small, brown and terrier looking, I followed it up.

“I drove miles. I drove to Yorkshire once, I drove to Norfolk once, only to find out it wasn’t her. We spent years looking.”
