A quick look at the plethora of guests popping up on Stormzy’s third album gives clues to his current ambitions. One of the biggest stars in the country since the success of his 2019 Glastonbury headline appearance, he could have got Adele, Ed Sheeran (who he’s collaborated with before) or any other stadium filler to do a feature. Instead, he has gone for names that, unless you are really up on contemporary Afrobeat, soul and R&B, probably won’t mean that much to you, such as Ayra Starr from Nigeria, Amaarae from Ghana, Debbie Ehirim from south London. Consider this alongside Stormzy’s social endeavours, like Oxbridge scholarships for black British students or setting up his publishing imprint, #Merky Books, and you realise that the 29-year-old
