Facebook and Instagram will reinstate the accounts of Donald Trump, two years after his suspension in the wake of the January 6 storming of the US Capitol.

Sir Nick Clegg, the president of Meta Platforms, said that Trump, 76, would be subject to the conditions set out by Meta’s oversight board, which could move to restrict his activities on the platforms should he commit future violations of the company’s policies.

“We just do not want — if he is to return to our services — for him to do what he did on January 6, which is to use our services to delegitimise the 2024 election, much as he sought to discredit the 2020 election,” Clegg told the Axios website.
